Romanian Academy of Scientists – a new era of development, a new commitment for science and for “Romania of Knowledge”

0

On 24 May, in the Aula of the “Carol I” Central University Library, the General Assembly of the Romanian Academy of Scientists met to discuss a number of important issues in the existence of the institution, at the end of the 2020-2024 mandate and at the beginning of the 2024-2028 mandate. The agenda of the General Assembly included the following items: 1. Presentation and approval of the Report on the scientific activity of the AOSR in 2023 and the Financial Report for the year 2023; 2. Speech by Prof. Dr. Ing. Adrian Badea at the end of two terms as President of the AOSR; 3. Putting to vote the election of the Honorary President of the AOSR; 4. Voting of candidates for full, corresponding and honorary members of the AOSR; 5. Election of the new Presidium of the AOSR for the term 2024-2028.

According to the Report on the scientific activity of the AOSR in 2023, presented by Mr. Doru-Sabin Delion, Research Scientist I, Vice-President of AOSR and President of the Bucharest Branch of AOSR, the Romanian Academy of Scientists has had a substantial and complex scientific activity in the past year, materialized in national and international scientific events, research contracts, projects for young people at postdoctoral level. The prodigious scientific activity of the AOSR is reflected in its presence in the ISI – Web of Science database, in the number of citations and international visibility of the institution. The results of the scientific activity place AOSR on the 7th place in the top of the research institutions in Romania according to the prestigious SCIMAGO ranking.

President Adrian Badea presented the evolution of the AOSR during the 2016-2020 and 2020-2024 presidential terms, the vision that was at its origin, in line with the founders of the institution, starting with Professor Constantin Angelescu and continuing with Professor General Vasile Cândea, highlighted the development coordinates, programs, projects and events under the aegis of the institution and highlighted its status as an elite academic institution in the Knowledge Space at national and international level. Professor Adrian Badea paid tribute to the memory of Professor Vasile Cândea, illustrious professor and physician, the second founder of the institution, and announced that in 2025 the Romanian Academy of Scientists will celebrate 90 years of existence, AOSR being the successor and sole legatee of the Romanian Academy of Sciences, founded in March 1935. The two mandates were a period of development for the AOSR, despite the difficulties the institution encountered, a framework for prolific scientific activity under the sign of scientific value and academic excellence.

At the end of the current term, the election of the Honorary President of the AOSR was put to a vote. By unanimous vote, Professor Adrian Badea was elected Honorary President of the Romanian Academy of Scientists. Next, the candidates for full, corresponding and honorary members, from home and abroad, of the AOSR were voted.

The last item on the agenda was the election of the new President of the AOSR for the 2024-2028 mandate. The candidates for the position of President of the AOSR are: prof. dr. eng. Ecaterina Andronescu, President of the Chemical Sciences Section of the AOSR and Prof. Dr. Ing. Doina Banciu, Vice President of AOSR and Director General of the AOSR Institute for Advanced Interdisciplinary Research “Constantin Angelescu”. Following the vote by the General Assembly, the President of the Romanian Academy of Scientists was elected Prof. Dr. Ing. Doina Banciu, with 90 votes out of 110 cast (6 votes annulled). Together with the new President, the Vice-Presidents and the Scientific Secretary of the AOSR were elected for the new mandate: prof. univ. dr. Viorel Jinga, Rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila” – Vice-President; prof. univ. dr. eng. Anton Hadăr – vice-chairman; prof. univ. dr. eng. Petru Andea – scientific secretary.

The elections held in the Aula of the “Carol I” Central University Library thus inaugurate a new mandate and a new period of development of the Romanian Academy of Scientists in the fields of education, science and academic research and continues the institution’s strong commitment to the implementation of the National Project “Romania of Knowledge”, an initiative of AOSR, with the potential to become a real Country Project.
