The ACADEMY OF ROMANIAN SCIENTISTS organizes the national conference Valențele Feminidade with the title: SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic: Challenges, controversies and what we have learned, held by Prof. Univ. Dr. Ileana Constantinescu, Head of Immunology and Transplant Immunology, UMF Carol Davila, Faculty of General Medicine, Bucharest; Head of Immunogenetics and Virusology Centre, Fundeni Clinical Institute.

The conference will be held with physical attendance, on Wednesday, 27 July 2022, at 14.00, at the headquarters of the Academy of Romanian Scientists, str. Ilfov, no. 3, sector 5, Bucharest.

Prof. Dr. Ileana Constantinescu – Through this debate I would like to bring up the complex issues we faced during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

This novel RNA virus has in some cases generated very strong inflammation with different localizations, which demonstrated an exacerbated immune response that could not always be contained.

Also, during the pandemic, we found that a statistically significant percentage of our country’s population has a number of serious co-morbidities such as chronic heart failure, hypertension of varying degrees, type 1 or type 2 diabetes, various neoplasms and other metabolic diseases with long-term health impacts.

SARS-CoV-2 infection in people with co-morbidities has posed serious challenges for therapy as well as management of supervised cases.

In this situation we realized that the immune response in our population is deficient in addition to the aspect of comorbidities, also due to lifestyle, diet and toxic habits such as smoking and alcohol, and lack of physical activity.

In the debate I raise the issue of early diagnosis, transmission and preventive and curative treatment of SARS-CoV-2.
