Way into the light, esteemed Mrs. Susana Geangalău!

The Romanian Academy of Scientists announces with sadness the passing away, on April 25, 2024, of Dr. ec. Susana Geangalău, full member of the Romanian Academy of Scientists and president of the Ecoforest Neamt Association.

A complex personality, Susana Geangalău, born on 29 October 1932, attended the Faculty of General Economics, Political Economy and Planning Department, at ASE, Bucharest (1960-1965), and was awarded a diploma in industrial economics. Between 1971 and 1978, he studied for a PhD at ASE Bucharest, Faculty of Economics of Industry, Construction and Transport, and in 1978 he defended his PhD thesis entitled “Comparative study on the economic efficiency of forms of material cointerests of workers applied in the cement and asbestos-cement products industry”, obtaining the scientific title of PhD in economics. Subsequently, he participated in various forms of specialization and training, organized by the PHARE program.

Among the areas of scientific expertise, the following can be highlighted: General and area-based management, Drawing up and implementation of financing projects, Economic and financial analysis, Drawing up development strategies and plans, Economic and social scientific research, Ergonomic organisation, Drawing up and implementation of vocational training programmes: courses in accordance with OG 129/2000 through formal, non-formal, informal and apprenticeship courses.

Director of the County Office of Economic and Social Organization, employee of the Central Institute of Informatics Bucharest (1985-1988), when she retired, Susana Geangalău continued her activity as President of the University “Petre Andrei”, Iasi, Piatra Neamt Branch (1992-1995), doubled as President of the Ecoforest Neamt Association (established on the basis of the Neamt County Court Decision no. 207 / 17.11.1997). The basic aims of the association ranged from greening the Bistrita Valley to teaching employees of the Neamt Chamber of Commerce to do European projects. Collaboration between the two institutions has been achieved through the establishment of the profession of ergonomist – a remarkable effort, made possible thanks to a team of university professors, scientists, economists, engineers, doctors and psychologists from universities, research institutes, ministries and professional associations, who succeeded in updating the nomenclature on the classification of occupations in Romania.

The great merit of Susana Geangalău is that she managed to change the ways and modalities of approaching the activities in the Civil Society Organizations in Romania, so that they can acquire the transformation in order to achieve superior, modern, sustainable results, to mark a significant progress in their evolution. Moreover, he has distinguished himself through his General Management activities in the functions of forecasting, organising, coordinating, coaching/motivating, controlling-evaluating. Carrying out externally and internally funded projects in the field of environmental protection, establishment and development of SMEs, agricultural farms, adult vocational training, promotion of ergonomics, development of strategies, plans, programmes, scientific research, economic, social and humanistic studies, etc. Developed a methodology that will constitute a “Youth Guarantee Scheme” responsibilities applicable to the selected target group 100 young people, 16-24 years old, who are going to leave the institutionalized protection system in Neamt county, in order to integrate the target group into the labour market, in a pilot experiment.

Mrs Susana Geangalău had a rich scientific activity, with more than 70 scientific communications (“Implications of energy on work capacity”, “Ergonomics – the science of organising human existence on the threshold of the third millennium” – “Ergonomics – an interdisciplinary science with a positive impact on the quality of life” – “Development of ergonomic science and culture in the human-computer-environment system”, – “Globalisation of civil society organisations” – “Scientific considerations on the impact and effect of programmes and projects”, etc.), 15 studies/strategies – (of which Local Development Strategy 2014-2020 of Păstrăveni commune, Neamt county – Local Agenda 21 – Sustainable Development Strategy of Ceahlău commune, Neamt county, 2004-2010 – Procedure-based solid waste management study in Mărgineni commune, 2008 – Strategy for the management of emergency situations by types of risk for the years 2008-2013, snowfall, floods, drought, extreme temperatures of the commune of Dobreni – Strategy for the sustainable development of human resources in folk art and handicrafts for the years 2009-2013 for the communes in the mountain area of Neamt) and the organisation of over 45 seminars on a variety of topics (Management of externally funded projects at Bicaz Town Hall – Training of local public administration in strategic planning in 8 municipalities in Neamt county – Involvement of volunteers in NGO activity in Piatra Neamt – Writing grant proposals in Piatra Neamt and Margineni – Business plan and market study for Balțătești municipality).

She was awarded in 2022 with the Jubilee Diploma and Gold Medal by the Romanian Academy of Scientists.

Friends and acquaintances can pay their last respects at the chapel of St. Gheorghe in Piatra Neamt where it will be submitted from 26.04.2024 at 16.00 until 27.04.2024 at 12.00.

The funeral will take place on Sunday, April 28, 2024 in Tulgheș commune, Harghita county.

Conform evaluării instituționale Scimago/ ELSEVIER , bazată pe vizibilitatea științifică internațională a membrilor săi, AOSR ocupă locul 22/Romania și 775/lume în clasamentul instituțiilor de cercetare și învățământ superior.
